The Victorian Government rent relief grant is a payment of up to $3,000 available to Victorian tenants who are experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The grant is paid directly to landlords on behalf of tenants.

Before tenants apply for the grant, they should:

  1. Agree on a temporary rent reduction with their landlord and register it with Consumer Affairs Victoria. Tenants may be eligible for the grant if they are still paying more than 30 per cent of their before tax (gross) income in rent after agreeing to a rent reduction.
  2. Check to see if they meet the other eligibility criteria for the grant.
  3. Read more about the grant process on the Housing Vic website.

Financial hardship is stressful and can affect you in different ways. It’s important to know that there are support services that can help you with your finances, relationships and mental health during this challenging time.
