School gatherings

School gatherings involving parents or other external guests no longer have a cap on maximum numbers.

School gatherings involving parents or other external guests no longer have a cap on maximum numbers. However, overall attendance numbers must be based on available floor space of the venue, with a density limit of one person per two square metres.

If an event is held with external guests (parents/carers/visitors) then the overall attendee limit (inclusive of guests, staff and students) must be based on available floor space of the venue; with the density limit of one person per two square metres applied.

If an event is held exclusively with students and staff from a single school, density limits do not apply to the venue or dancefloor, regardless of whether the event is held at school or at a hospitality venue, entertainment facility or community facilities.

All schools are required to follow public health directions and apply the operational health and safety advice to schools during large events.

This includes:

  • everyone  aged 12 years and over wearing face masks when indoors
  • practising physical distancing and good hand hygiene
  • Face masks can be removed briefly for photos or giving a speech
